The study of Strings helps your child develop an appreciation of the arts and specifically orchestral music. When considering the idea of multiple intelligences, this discipline offers a chance for your child to enhance his or her musical, kinesthetic, spatial, intrapersonal, interpersonal, and logical-mathematical intelligences. For all students, developing a positive self-image is important. Studying strings requires self-discipline. When a student achieves a goal because he or she has learned this self-discipline and receives positive results, and self-confidence is built. This, in turn, helps the image the student has of him/herself to be a positive one. Students develop and utilize fine and gross motor skills and the work requires precision and accuracy.
Parental Involvement
Parental involvement is critical to the success of the child. The parent is asked to participate in the lesson along with the child. This way the parent understands what the instructor is attempting to teach and can reinforce this at home.
Pioneering with Pre-Kindergarten
Many years ago, Eastover-Central became a School of Arts. In our effort to expand and explore new avenues of arts study for our students, we decided to offer our Pre-K students the opportunity to study violin beginning in the fall of 2004.
Pre-K through 2nd Grade
As each new school year began, Eastover-Central added a new grade level to our expanding strings program. We are proud to say that we now offer strings to every student on every grade level in the school! The program is required for all students from Pre-K through 2nd Grade. Instruments on this level are still provided by the school and parental involvement is extremely important. The program becomes optional in 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades, and parents of these students are required to provide their own instruments.
5th Grade
5th Graders are given the opportunity to study the violin, viola, and cello. The string bass is too large an instrument for study at this time.
