A black and white image of a video camera, a strip of film and a scene plate used for capturing shots of scenes.Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), certain student education records are designated as “directory information,” and can be disclosed to third parties without parents’ consent. Because it is often necessary or highly desirable to record virtual classes for use by students at some point after the class has taken place, Cumberland County Schools (CCS) has specifically identified recordings of virtual classes showing students and recording their class participation as a type of “directory information.” These virtual class recordings will only be shared with other students in the same class via our Canvas platform. Although we will make available a form (via email and posting on the CCS Website) allowing you as a parent to opt-out of your child being part of these class recordings, please note that if you do so, your child’s participation in virtual classes may be limited as a result, such as requiring your child to turn off his or her camera and to only communicate with the teacher on a one-to-one basis, such as email or ClassDojo. If you wish to opt-out of the class recordings, you must complete the opt-out form (https://forms.gle/ckaw6pD7N1rBgZwB8) within ten (10) days. If you do NOT wish to opt-out, NO ACTION IS  NECESSARY. Thank you for your attention to this important aspect of virtual learning.
